7th October 2024
Dear Members,
Hope this letter finds you well.
The last month ended on a very sad note with the passing of Dr. Sandip Chatterjee, a highly respected senior member of the Bengal Club, and a member of the General Committee and Chairman of the Bi-Centenary and IT & Communications Subcommittees. Dr. Chatterjee was a renowned Neurosurgeon in the country and an inspiring educator who lectured across the world, a distinguished debater and a highly sought-after moderator, known for his sharp intellect, wit and grace in facilitating discussions. His leadership, wisdom, and commitment enriched our Club’s activities. He has contributed immensely to the Club over the years. He will be deeply missed.
Over the past few months, your club has successfully hosted the much awaited’ Hilsa and Beer Festival’, the Oktober-hog-fest and hosted Dr. Karan Thapar in a lively Bengal Club ‘Dialogues’ event moderated by our very own senior member Mr. Krishnan Srinivasan. The newly formed Book club was also launched last month. The upcoming Durga Puja days will host specially curated menus for all of you to enjoy. With the prevailing situation in the city, we had to postpone our much awaited ‘Agomoni’ programme but I can assure you that post the Puja break your respective sub-committees namely, Entertainment, Library, Food and Bar are preparing a very interesting event calendar right till the end of the year.
I am also very happy to inform you that of the eleven rooms and one suite that we have as part of Chambers, four of them have been completely refurbished and we hope to complete the remaining ones over the next two years. The newly opened ‘Finch Room’ (named after our first President) is now available on the second floor of our main building for small meeting and parties. Since the Coastal cuisine is now available at our Dining room, the room has been renamed to its original ‘The Millennium Room’ which is also available for meetings and small parties. Our Projects and Maintenance team have been looking at some major repairs that are critical to our building, kitchens and other real estate assets. We are also in the phase of renovating the Management offices post Puja.
On behalf of the entire team at Bengal Club, I wish you and your family a safe, peaceful and happy festive season and look forward to welcoming you at your Club at all times.
With my very best wishes,
Sumit Ray
